It’s been a solid season, and a fantastic year of unbelievable cycling for me. I have surpassed my goals and reached new heights, sometimes surprising myself and sometimes leaving much to be desired, but on the whole I can only say I’ve had a lot of fun.
I have made some new partnerships, and each one has gone out of their way to make my year of racing a successful one.
I’d like the say thank you first of all to Specialized SA for their continued support and allowing me the pleasure of using their substantial range of products. The Tarmac SL3 has been an ultimate race machine, it’s never faltered and has always felt like an extension of my body in racing, I don’t have to think about the bike, I decide where I wanna be and the bike goes there in an instant. It’s smooth, fast and light… everything you could possibly want in a bike. On the Mountain the Stumpjumper 29er Hardtail has dawned a new era for big wheeled bikes, it broadened my scope of riding and has proven itself race worthy in short fast lap racing of the XC series, as well as day after day racing in the Cape Epic. Meanwhile my S-Works shoes, both on the road and mountain have provided mile after mile of pain free pedaling, perfect power transfer and maximum comfort. I’ve taken some tumbles in the dirt this season too, and none other than the S-works 2D Helmet has saved my bean. I’ve been able to get back on and ride strong to the finish and that made all the difference in the XC series were each point mattered. Thank you and I look forward to the 2011 SL3 for summer.
FiT Sports Nutrition have played a major role in my march up the timing sheets. Their range of products has worked for me in all the training, racing and recovery I have put myself through this year. I have seen and felt results bot in the lab and out on the road. Their friendly team has always been close on hand for 1 on 1 advice where I needed some performance issues solved. Nutrition is a big part of any athletes end result and it’s has been invaluable having the FiT team behind me all the way. They even had Antilac tabs on hand in the middle of Ceres during the Cape Epic, most welcome after cramping all through day 1.
J&J Cycling have been a valued supplier of ITM components, Campagnolo wheels and Challenge tires. I have used the Challenge Criterium tubular tires for the whole spring season, except one race, with very good results. They have impressive grip and low rolling resistance. They survived quite a beating over the cracks, gutters and bumps of the League Crit, and I showed them no mercy. The longevity has been superb, the front still looks like the day I glued it on, and the rear still shows the centre lines I thought would be long gone by now. I reckon they will last through DC, and all summer long too. That is great value. My bora’s and Shamals have been flawless so far and I’m looking forward to adding more miles as we build up to next season.
My daily supplements have been taken care of by Solal Technologies. They have an enormous range of products that truly work. They have a focused product for everything you can think of and more and their help and support has been much appreciated – Good health is key when it’s so easy to get run down.
Warren at Cranked Cycles has helped me a substantial amount when it comes to spec’ing my bikes. He knows I want nothing but the best and I want it now. The Sram Red and XO groups, American Classic wheelsets and Truvativ finishing kit has been flawless in design and performance. I didn’t even take a spare with me on Epic, such is the confidence I had in the products. Thanks for the great deals and prompt service, and for going out of your way on more than one occasion.
To all the other sponsors that helped me on my way to the Epic especially the team at Fundamental, thank you very much I hope I have been a good ambassador.
Last but not least, my wonderful wife and my baby girl Taylor. Thanks for the motivation, inspiration and understanding at 5am in the morning.
